It was only 1.5 seconds. Only that seperated Schumacher from his first victory. But the strategy of Alonso was just al little bit better! ... But still, a second place in the first GP of the year is absolutely a great start. Unfortunately Massa had less luck. He spun his Ferrari while driving as third. It seems it was just a drivers mistake, but it did mean he had to go into the pits for new tyres. And in the pits he had even less luck, because the pitcrew couldn't get the wheel of. But in the end, he did finish the race... as 9th. Just out of the points, but the reliability of the car is good! This promises a lot for the rest of the season. Let's see what the next GP (next week) brings us!
And what a start of the season. Yesterday the word was that Renault would be the favorite for pole. Also McLaren would be great, but Kimi destroyed it for himself (or his car did) by crashing in the first period of qualifing. And what did Ferrari do? ... They did the best, the very best they could do! First AND second!! That means also a fantastic start of the Ferrari-race-debutant Massa! ... This is the best start for Ferrari of the 2006-season. Let's hope they can do the same in the race tomorrow! Fingers crossed!
And at Sunday it all begins. The cards will be shuffeled. Who survived the winter stop? Who will be the strongest? Will Ferrari fight back? Will it again be Renault? What does Honda do now they have their own team? Well, the friday (free)practice might give us some info about the teams. Of course, since it's the first GP of the season, every team want to present theirselves as good as possible. And what can we tell? Well, Ferrari wasn't the fastest on the track, that was Anthony Davidson in... a Honda (1:31.353)! Nice Debut! And Second? Yes, Michael Schumacher in his Ferrari (1:31.751)! Third place went to Wurz in his Williams. And fourth was Massa.. in 1:32.175!
For the Dutch readers of this site... Robert Doornbos was very fast as testdriver in the RedBull... A 7th place (1:32.926). He really showed himself! The other Dutch driver did, well... he was 26th (of 28th drivers). And slower than his teammate and the testdriver from Midland.
